Here are a few of the many projects available for students and Scouts. Some are long term and some are only suitable for older students.

Landscaping:

Place a perimeter of river rock around drip line of mature oaks on east edge of property and fill in the area with mulch so we can complete a Miwok interpretive center under the oak trees.

Remove present brick patio, level ground and replace patio so the bricks are even and can safely accommodate a wheel chair or walker.

San Joaquin Township Justice Court:

Replace as needed and paint eaves on the jail. This would include doing the trim around the windows in the same manner.

Make mattresses for the eight bunks in the two cells of the jail that would look like mattresses found in jails in the early 1900s - something made from pillow ticking that would be lightly stuffed.

Research Library:

Help conduct and transcribe oral histories with the long time residents of the area. These residents need to be interviewed and the interview recorded and then transcribed.

Help research some of the areas earliest families and this would include going into Sacramento to get documentation from the recorders office regarding their land holdings. Some of the families we are currently in need of help with are: Sheldon, Daylor, Hall, Murphy and Shadden.

Read and record information from area cemeteries. We need people to go out and write down all the information on the various headstones in several area cemeteries and take pictures of the markers. The cemeteries we need help with are San Joaquin Cemetery, Elk Grove Masonic Cemetery, Hilltop Cemetery, Hicksville Cemetery and Elder Creek Cemetery. The information and photos then need to be entered into a database in the research library.

Additional Advanced Projects:

Construct a storage shed for tables, chairs, ladders, etc. Cannot be larger that 12’ x 12’.
