General Meetings

Our General Meeting is held the third Monday of each month at 6:30 pm (Open at 6:00 pm).  On months when we have special events, the scheduled meeting day and time may be changed so please check our schedule.  Presently, we have been meeting at the Presbyterian Church at 8153 Elk Grove Boulevard #50, Elk Grove, California 95758. (Its located approximately across from the “Falls.” – Exit on to Big Horn and its the building behind the Chevron Station.) The meetings can be at various locations, so please check your newsletter, the web site or Facebook page for more information.

January 15 – Dennis Buscher – “Franklin”

Dennis will discuss the history and residents of the town of Franklin

 

February 19 – Kevin Knauss –“Hidden History Beneath Folsom Lake – Hiking Across a Dry Lake Bed in Time of Drought,

In 2015 Folsom Lake was drained due to record low water levels and many Gold Rush era sites were exposed. Kevin Knauss, author of “Hidden History Beneath Folsom Lake – Hiking Across a Dry Lake Bed in Time of Drought,” captured numerous photographs of the remnants of the gold rush in the region.

 

March 19 – Roberta Tanner – “Not History – But Her Story”

Roberta has a collection of women’s hats worn from 1890 to 2010 and has a story for each.

 

April 16 – Mark Davidson – “Mexican Land Grants”

Mark is a Sacramento County Historian with a special interest in early California history. He will speak on the Mexican land grants beginning in 1841 and interesting people that shaped our local heritage, i.e. John Sutter, William Daylor, the Rhoads family, Billy Hicks and how Twin Cities got its name. He has a generous display that will be open for viewing at 5:30.

 

May 21 – Steve Beck – “Part-1: Sutter to the Bear Flag Revolt”

Steve is the Director of History and Educational Programming for Sutter’s Fort and will speak on its history and relationship to our area. He is well known for articles about the Donner Party, Bear Flag Revolt, and the relationship between Sutter and the Indigenous People of the Sacramento Valley. He has appeared on my television broadcasts and programs and has spoken all over the West Coast.

September 17 – Ellen McNeil – “One Room Schoolhouses Throughout California”

Ellen and her husband Mac have visited over 117 1-room schoolhouses in fourteen states. She discusses the 23 1-room schoolhouse she has visited in California highlighting and ending with our our own Roads School.
