San Joaquin Township Justice Court & Jail

The original San Joaquin Township Justice Court also sits on the museum grounds. Originally located behind the old Odds Fellow Building in Old Town Elk Grove, near the tracks and built in 1912, the building served the towns of Elk Grove, Sheldon, Florin, and surrounding area’s until the 1940’s. Here you will find the last two remaining cells from the original 1850 Sacramento County Jail. The cells came from the prison ship La Grange that was moored at the mouth of the Sacramento River upstream from H Street. It is furnished just as it was used in that time period.
