Ballroom 2019 – Early Elk Grove Schools Display – All year long

In the early days of our community, farmers, gold miners, businessmen, and others realized the importance of teaching our youth, so they built small one room schools scattered throughout the area. (See "Early Schools" under "HISTORY TOPICS" on the Menu for details of all 40 schools.) Schools near each other formed small school districts, some had several schools in the district, some just the one. In 1959 they all combined into one huge school district called the Elk Grove Unified School District (EGUSD). This display has a photograph of each school with a map of where they were located. Also there is a small mock classroom with many of the school items of the day.

An Old Fashion Christmas 2023

Every year many volunteers work for two months redecorating the museum for our An Old Fashion Christmas. Each year we try to make it bigger and better. This year the attendance doubled, so the word is getting out. We had some return with other family members and some stayed for a couple of hours. We do have a $10 entrance fee, but we are just trying to break even. All eight rooms of the museum Hall House are decorated as well as the Jail and the Folks house. We have cookie decorating for the whole family, ornament making, and a children's play area with games, coloring books, toys, and other activities. The most popular snow making machines caps it all off after visiting with Santa. He is there every day.…

2023 Founders Day w/ Historian of the Year award

Partnering with CCSD, the Elk Grove Historical Society created "Founders Day" to celebrate the history of Elk Grove. September 2023 was the first annual presentation and was organized by Susan Hernandez. It has also offered us a venue to present our annual "Historian of the Year" award, this year given to Louis Silveira. It will be a free event highlighting many historic activities for children and adults. It will be slated for the second Saturday in September each year.   The Elk Grove Historical Society Elizabeth Pinkerton History Award was presented by the lady herself to this years winner, Louis Silveira. Also, a Proclamation of Recognition given by the California Assembly and presented by Assembly member Stephanie Nguyen and City Council member Darren Suen to the Elk Grove Historical Society…
